Knoxville Area Transit—KAT—operates a full fleet of buses. Many of their buses are equipped with bike racks. So it is possible to bike part of the way and bus the rest of the way.

  • free trolleys downtown
  • 30 weekday routes
  • 364 trips downtown every workday
  • 2.73 million riders per year

LIFT is a KAT program that provides transportation for persons with disabilities. LIFT customers must be eligible under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and certified by KAT. For more information about LIFT, call 865-215-7850.

Smart Trips, a program of the Knoxville Regional Transportation Planning Organization, serves the urbanized areas of Knox, Blount, Sevier, Jefferson, and Anderson Counties. The Smart Trips Program is funded by the US Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration, the Tennessee Department of Transportation, Knox County, the ALCOA Foundation and Tennessee Valley Bicycles.

Smart Trips Waiver of Liability
Participation in Smart Trips programs such as carpool, vanpool, riding the bus, biking, walking to work, and the Emergency Ride Home (ERH) program is an individual decision. Participants are completely responsible for the operation of carpools and participation in any Smart Trips programs.
